Awake every two hours last night with stronger contractions— and at 39 weeks + 3 days pregnant, I’m finally feeling like this baby is coming SOON!!!👏🏼I remember this happening in the days leading up to the birth of my first two babies and I’m getting so excited!!☺️

In other news, TWO more galleries to edit and deliver and I’m DONE! My goal is to have all photography work finished before his arrival so I can savor every single snuggle with my newborn💕But for now, I’d love to share with you this session I took of my gorgeous friend and her family. You might remember Maryellen from last summer’s session in Ocean City, NJ when she was pregnant with her second baby.

Fast forward 10 months and here she is with baby Claire, who has ALL the most perfect Irish features.. blue eyes, ginger hair and fair skin!🍀The session started off with smiles but within minutes turned to cries as she clung to her mommy for comfort and milk. I’d be dishonest if I tried to portray every session as sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes babies cry— but it’s how the parents respond that make ALL the difference. I

n Claire’s case, Maryellen sang the most beautiful song as she held her tight, swaying with each note, caressing her daughter’s face.

    Tears soaked her eyelashes.

    Redness spread about her cheeks.

But the family remained calm, gentle, serene.

As I told Maryellen after the session, while I do love happy, joyful photos, I think these ones tell a deeper story of her character as a mother than any smiling ones would…When you respond in such a way as she did, your children will look back at these images and remember how tender you were towards them— even in difficult times.

And what a treasure that is.

More telling than any shot of laughter or bliss.

These photos display the unconditional love of a mother, the patience of a saint.

The meaningful work that often goes unseen by most, but has a legacy for generations to come💕 (6/10/20)

If I could give an award to my #bestdressed client, it would be this lady— this family. When I tell you Jamie knows ALL about colors, textures, fabrics and styling, I’m not kidding😂With the idea of a natural, organic, neutral palette, she cohesively coordinated outfits for her family of six— and they sauntered out of their minivan and into the magical Pine Barrens looking like models💄💋💃Jamie’s no stranger to this process though because she’s in fact, a family photographer herself.Born and raised in Wisconsin, and a transplant to South Jersey, she’s celebrating ten years of marriage and the first birthday of her very last baby. She booked this session with me way back in October because as she said, she had seen my work and craved deeply emotional images with her children— ones that tug at her heartstrings and bring tears to her eyes.Images that would show exactly how she feels about each of them—about being their mother—without saying a word. Images that would tell the story of great love for her babies and the gratitude she has for the family they’ve become. And let me tell you, while we did have plenty of playful moments, on their own, her children one-by-one gravitated towards her gentleness.Wrapping their arms around her neck, clinging to her legs, clutching her breast, each child expressed their adoration for their mother in different ways.Knowing her story— and how she had struggled with infertility before her babies were born— made each moment that much more meaningful. Her strength, kindness and tenderness is utterly palpable in every picture. Thank you, Jamie, for giving me the opportunity to capture these connections you have with those you love most. I’m so honored. (5/31/20)

Three tiny babies— all under the age of ten months— one sister, two brothers— the most perfect siblings—a miracle more than a decade in the making.

For years, their mommy and daddy tried to conceive— but month after month, they faced the reality of infertility.

After many losses and years of waiting for their family to grow, 2019 surprised them with not only the adoption of their son, but also with the birth of twins.

And now, Thea & Alek are four months old, growing like weeds and quickly becoming fond of their big brother Erik.

While Erin & Brian make it look easy raising three infants all at once, these parents share the same struggles any mom & dad does— triple fold.

    Triple the wakings.
    Triple the diapers.
    Triple the tears.

But they had ten years of hoping for this,
    Yearning for this,
Praying for this blessing we call parenthood.

So each wailing cry reminds them they are wanted.
Each aching muscle reminds them they are needed.
Each tender grasp reminds them they, too, are loved in return.

This family’s hands—and hearts—are fuller than they ever dreamed possible. Three babies all at once, more than they ever hoped for, a miracle beyond measure.

Within the next couple weeks, we will soon find out out where we will be moving next!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 #militarylife 📦🌎 On one hand, I’m excited to FINALLY know where we will be living the next 2-3 years.. but on the other hand, completely anxious knowing how much house-hunting, school-searching, and endless hours of purging/packing/organizing that’s entailed in each move— especially with a tiny brood underfoot.
There’s also a chance we may go overseas— which makes it all the more potentially complicated. I’ve gone back and forth weighing the options and I’ve decided to just sit back and BREATHE while we await official orders (#easiersaidthandone). And by breathe, I mean focus on my family and take a loooong, much-needed break after the busiest season I’ve ever had running my business.
So that’s why you haven’t seen much of me here on social media😉 The boys and I have been visiting family in Alabama (ask me about that 14-hour road trip, I dare you🤪, enjoying lots of story time reading (checking out no less than 25 books from the library each time 📚😂), building forts ⛺️ and constructing lots and lots of LEGOs!
But in the midst of the fun, I did squeeze in time with one of my dearest friends Kelli—who just gave birth to her third baby boy!!!💙💙💙 Kelli & I have known each other since our college days at Penn State and now (thanks to the military🇺🇸)we live less than 30 minutes from each other. It meant so much to me when she asked if I would be interested in photographing her very last baby, Beckham.
A head full of luscious hair and the sweetest cheeks you’ve ever seen, he was a DREAM to document✨Between him and his adorable big brothers, our morning was full of kisses, snuggles and giggles. No matter where we end up with this next move, one thing’s for sure— I will truly miss my beautiful friend and her family. For now, I vow to soak in all the moments I have left here in NJ, knowing life will soon look very different in a brand new location♥️ (01.19.20)

I know many of you wonder what my secret is for a successful photo session— and the truth is, there’s no secret at all. If you show up, throw out any idea of “perfection,” and solely focus on LOVING your family, playing with your children, connecting with your spouse– all while embracing EVERY moment (both good AND bad)… this is where real, authentic, MAGICAL moments happen.
No matter how much time you spend coordinating the perfect outfits, no matter how many hours you spend curating the perfect day allowing naps/snacks/etc before the session even begins, there is always bound to be a meltdown or tantrum during a session… or a child who refuses to cooperate😂 But that’s OKAY. As long as you stay positive. And remember to remain calm.

Sometimes just counting your blessings and focusing on gratitude–in the middle of the chaos– can transform your ENTIRE perspective.

So let your kids RUN, don’t force them to smile at the camera and for the LOVE of all things holy, think of this hour as a sacred opportunity to document your family JUST AS YOU ARE. Leave the stress at home and I’ll do all the work😉

P.S. this family did all of the above and our session was playful, emotional and SO MUCH FUN💛 (12.13.19)
