{Baby Luke} Fresh 48 Hospital Newborn Portraits
Perhaps the biggest compliment you can give a photographer is to simply hire them… especially for those precious moments that only happen once. That’s why people will spend thousands on a wedding photographer. It’s a day you dream about and plan for years and the only way to truly remember the details vividly is to pay someone to document it well. Same goes for newborn photography. A baby is only born once and they will only fit in the palm of your hand for a few short weeks. That’s why hiring someone to capture your baby’s first moments is beyond imperative.
The way I got hired for this hospital #fresh48 session is more unconventional than most, but it proves the importance of documenting those first few hours. Tiffany had already hired me to take her pending newborn’s portraits, but an early delivery and a deployed husband threw a wrench in every predetermined plan. After an abrupt onset of painful contractions and a very short delivery, baby Luke was born three weeks early, all while his Air Force daddy was still out of the country.
Knowing this and realizing how important those first couple days are for new parents, I called Tiffany and told her I would be more than happy to come to the hospital to document Luke’s first day—and she immediately agreed. Because his arrival took us all by complete surprise, none of us were prepared, but we made the most of it! Not only did I have the opportunity to capture Luke’s first bath, I also video recorded the first time he met his brother and sisters! Each child reacted differently, but they were all so excited to play with their new baby brother!
It wasn’t until I sent the finished gallery to Tiffany that she disclosed to me how grateful she and her husband were for these images. Nothing compares to that feeling when a satisfied client lets you know how much they appreciate you. Besides hiring you, there is no better compliment.

{Morris Family} portraits
The morning I met the Morris family was one Sunday last May, just after my husband left for his deployment. They were the cute family sitting behind me at church and their baby was a tiny newborn. Bright blue eyes and the lightest blond hair, he was adorable (and a convenient conversation topic for new acquaintances!). Weeks would pass and I would see them again and Mackenzie would always ask how I was doing with my husband away. It was so refreshing to meet someone who was so genuinely thoughtful and I was grateful for my new friend! So you can just imagine how excited I was when she asked me to take their first family portraits! Everything about this session was a photographer’s dream: gorgeous family, AMAZING sunset and stunning location. The golden hour lived up to its name as the sun’s rays flooded through the weepy Spanish moss and created the most #magical backdrop. Meanwhile, the Morris clan smiled, laughed, tickled and played, relishing in Hayes’ newest word… “Mama.” #perfection
