Military wives are some of the strongest women I’ve ever met. Facing unforeseen absences, deployments–along with stressful, unpredictable moves, they trudge forward, doing whatever is asked of them, standing stoically amidst uncertainty. And then there’s pregnancy in the thick of all that. The SWEETEST blessing, but sometimes endured alone while her spouse is gone for months at a time, serving their country.

I’ll never cease admiring the strength of these women… or these families who sacrifice so much.

Here is a joyful announcement session I captured on the flight line at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. This pair is expecting their first child this June and I couldn’t be happier for them. God bless them both!

Most wives have the luxury of dropping by their husbands’ offices to say hello or surprise them with lunch, but unfortunately, not this girl!😩 As many of you know, my husband’s job in the military prevents me from walking into his cubicle unannounced😭😂So when his commander offered me an opportunity to PHOTOGRAPH him, his flight as well as his ENTIRE squadron working hard in their respective jobs, I couldn’t say no. Not only did it get me out of the house and connecting with other grownups🤣(sorry, kids), it gave me the chance to use my photojournalistic skills and be creative in a setting UNRELATED to families, children or babies. So if you’ve ever wondered just WHAT it is they do on an Air Force Base (BESIDES fly airplanes, of course ✈️ 🤣), here it is. This is the 305th OSS in action— predicting the weather, analyzing intelligence, instructing pilots, controlling air traffic and fixing equipment, among many, MANY other duties. It was mind blowing to see all they do in serving our country. Thank you again, Col Jim Kerley for this opportunity. I HAD SO MUCH FUN! (And I cant wait to see these photos adorning the walls of the squadron!😍)

  • 6th Airlift Squadron Homecoming | McGuire Air Force Base, NJ | September 2019

It’s not everyday I get to witness a military #homecoming. But when I do, I choke back the tears, knowing what it’s like to spend months without a loved one who’s been deployed overseas—months upon months of missed birthdays, missed milestones, missed moments.
And I also know what it’s like when you finally see them again, breathing a sigh of relief that they’re out of harm’s way and safe with you–in your arms.
These men & women sacrifice so much in serving our country and deserve to be recognized for their selfless service.

Please join me in welcoming home members of the 6th Airlift Squadron at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey who spent the past three months deployed in Southeast Asia.
Today, they finally reunited with their wives, girlfriends, parents & children. We honor you, thank you & salute you🇺🇸 (09.03.19)
